Terms of Service

Agreeing to these terms
Yap is operated by Hari Vishnu S. Before your first answer, the app shows Yap's house rules — the short version of “How to behave here” below — and asks you to tap I agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. We record which version you agreed to and when. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
You must be 18 or older
No exceptions, anywhere. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 18, it will be removed.
What this is
You answer a prompt without seeing anyone else's answer. When someone else answers the same one, you're matched and both answers are revealed at once. You can then talk to that person. Conversations close on their own after a day unless you both choose to keep them open.
You're anonymous to the person you're matched with. That's deliberate — and it cuts both ways, so use the same judgement you would with any stranger. Don't share information you wouldn't want a stranger to have.
How to behave here
Don't:
- Harass, threaten, or abuse anyone.
- Post anything illegal, or anything sexual involving minors — this will be reported to the authorities, not just removed.
- Send sexual images to anyone who hasn't clearly asked for them, or share anyone's intimate images without their consent — including in a view-once photo.
- Spam, advertise, scam, or phish for personal details.
- Try to work out who someone is, or pressure them for identifying information.
- Impersonate someone else.
- Get around a ban by making a new account, or automate access to the app.
Messages pass through an automated filter, and you can Report or Block anyone at any time. Reports are reviewed by a person, who reads the reported conversation to decide.
If you break the rules
A report that holds up counts against you. The first is a warning. The second, from someone else, suspends your account for 7 days — no answering and no messages. The third disables it for good, and the same email can't be used to sign up again. Anything sexual involving a minor, threats, or exposing who someone is disables an account the first time, and anything illegal may be reported to the police. If three different people report you within 30 days, you won't be matched with anyone new until those reports have been reviewed.
Going quiet in a conversation is not breaking a rule — a chat closes on its own if nobody writes. If you leave someone's message unanswered and they leave because of it, the app may send you a short reminder that a reply, or Leave, is kinder. That reminder is not a strike.
The app tells you which rule a warning, suspension or disable was about. If you think it's wrong, write to our Grievance Officer; if you're not satisfied with the answer, you can appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee.
This is not a crisis or counselling service
There are no professionals here — just other people answering the same prompt. Nothing in this app is medical, psychological, or legal advice, and nobody is monitoring conversations for signs that someone is in danger.
If you're in crisis, please contact a real service: findahelpline.com lists helplines by country. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.
Ending things
You can delete your account whenever you like, from the You tab in the app or via the delete your account page. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, or where it's necessary to keep other people safe — usually without notice, because warning someone first is often exactly the wrong move in a safety situation.
No guarantees, and limits on liability
This app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. It may be unavailable, lose data, or fail to match you with anyone. We don't promise that the filter catches everything, or that other people will behave well — we can't, because we don't control what strangers type.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, or from your interactions with other people on it.
Changes
These terms may change. Significant changes will be shown with an updated date here, and the app will ask you to agree again before you answer another prompt.
